Boxing Day purchase - Sony 35 mm FE f/1.8
Took advantage of some boxing day sales + a gift voucher I had for Vistek, and got a really good deal on the 35 mm FE f/1.8 lens.
I've been eyeing a 35 mm lens, since I feel my existing 50 mm is sometimes too tight; while I could step backwards a bit, having a just a tad bit more in the frame does seem appealing.
Note: This is in the context of full frame sensors; a 35 mm on an APSC sensor for instance would be equivalent to a full frame of 50 mm
Reasons for getting the lens:
- Light, compact - makes it more discrete if I wanted to do casual walkaround street photography
- Arguably better value for a hobbyist such as myself - voucher time constraints meant I needed to use it before the new year, and I didn't really want to spend more on other lens choices
Reasons for not getting the lens:
- Pretentiousness - this will be my first native Sony lens that is neither a G or GM lens. I'll survive somehow I hope.
- The 35 mm f/1.4 GM is optically a superior lens
- if I really wanted to get cheaper options, I could opt for 3rd party lenses from Sigma or Tamron for instance.
